The HECC Cricket School
Hertfordshire & Essex Cricket Centre (HECC Sport) offers expert cricket coaching for players of all ages and abilities. Our purpose-built indoor and outdoor facilities provide the perfect environment for year-round training, helping players improve their batting, bowling, and fielding skills.
Led by ECB-qualified coaches, we support everyone from beginners to aspiring county players. At HECC Sport, our goal is to develop confidence, skill, and a lifelong love of cricket in every player.
Meet The Team
Luke Humphrey
Luke began his coaching career in 1998 as an ECB Level 1 Coach and joined the family business full-time in 2002. By 2003, he became one of the youngest ECB Level 3 coaches in England and spent eight years working with Hertfordshire County Cricket Association as an Age Group Coach, Emerging Players Programme Head Coach, and Performance Director. He also gained experience with disabled schools and the Chance to Shine initiative.
Luke has worked with the England Lions, serving as Lead Batting Coach for the England Talent Tests at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough. In 2010, he was selected for the prestigious ECB Level 4 Master Coach Award. He has served as specialist batting coach for Hertfordshire CC, head coach for the East Cricket Academy, and led the National Fast Bowling Academy at HECC, which was praised by ECB Managing Director Ashley Giles. Locally, he has worked with clubs including Hoddesdon CC, Harlow CC, and Bishop’s Stortford CC, and has extensive experience coaching in schools. In 2019, Luke began the ECB Level 4 Specialist Award in batting and spin bowling, combining this with over 21 years of coaching experience to support aspiring cricketers at every level.
Meet The Team
Brad Oakes
Brad is an ECB Level 3 coach currently working towards the ECB level 4 specialist coach award. He works across both the boys’ and girls’ pathways at Essex County Cricket Club. Within the boys’ pathway, Brad Co-Lead Coach for the U14 CAG squad and Lead coach in the Primary Age Groups Programme (U12 and below). He also plays an active role in the Essex Girls EPP while supporting the U13/14 Girls CAG squads.
Alongside his county roles, Brad coaches year-round with HECC academies and has over 10years of experience delivering high quality 1-to-1 coaching. As a player he represented hertfordshire County Cricket Club up to U18 level and still plays locally for Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club. Brad brings a player-centred, thoughtful approach, combining strong technical knowledge with a focus on long-term development. His experience across multiple county programme helps players better understand their game and progress with confidence.

Dom Clutterbuck
I began my coaching career when I was part of the Oxford MCCU squad at university. I spent two years coaching the Oxford University Women’s Team. When I graduated from university in 2020 I got a job as a Graduate Sports Assistant at Bishop’s Stortford College. I spent two years at the school learning new skills and mainly coaching cricket and hockey. I spent the winter leading the sessions for the Boys 1st Team and in the summer assisted the Director of Cricket on senior and prep school games.
In the summer of 2022 I started working for Luke at HECC. Leading the summer camps and then in the winter I started working on the pathway programmes! As well as the groups sessions I am in the Centre doing 1-2-1s with boys and girls of varying abilities!
Apart from working at HECC I do my other coaching work at Bishop’s Stortford Cricket Club. Where I am Director of Coaching, 1st XI Captain and Head Coach of the Women’s 1st and 2nd teams!
Meet The Team
Liam Smith
I have been coaching in sport since I turned 18 years old but started in cricket during the 2020 season when my club Bengeo CC ran the ECB led program All Stars and Dynamos which was a great success having 100+ applicants.
This led me to complete my ECB Level 1 course in December 2021 and start the colts section at the club, which now 6 years later has age groups spanning U9-U14s including a girls U11 team. I decided to further my qualifications and knowledge by completing the ECB Level 2 in March 2023, after which I won the Hertfordshire Game Changer award for contributions to the game.
I started at HECC in the winter of 2025 to join the coaches with the Junior, Emerging and Senior academies and also to lend a hand whenever required. This led me to helping in a number of areas including the Senior academy games and the Spin academy as well as Bishop Stortford CC during the summer.

ADAM Pearce
Adam is an ECB Level 2 Coach and is the HECC apprentice. He has recently graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology. This specialism is now an integral part of the programmes offered at HECC. Adam has over 10 years playing experience and currently plays for Hockerill CC.

WILL Lambert
Will is an ECB Level 2 coach and has been part of the HECC coaching team since 2018. During his time at the centre, he has worked with our Junior Development Squads and Academies, as well as alongside Essex and West Essex in support of their Player Development Programmes. Locally, Will is the lead cricket coach for KS3 and KS4 at The Bishop’s Stortford High School (TBSHS) and also supports age-group coaching at Bishop’s Stortford Cricket Club (BSCC).
